Our Story

House of Guramayle is a collaborative intersectional platform created by exiled Ethiopian activists based around the world. We aim to advocate for the Ethiopian LGBTIQ+ community and create a safe space for them to share their stories and experiences of social, economic, health and political issues.

In Ethiopia, homosexual acts – across all genders – are illegal, with penalties of up to 15 years imprisonment. Our two primary advocacy aims are to:


Ensure the Ethiopian LGBT+ community has access to health care, including a specialised clinic for HIV, STIs & STDs.


Engage the Ethiopian government to develop an inclusive HIV/AIDS national plan, which accounts for the needs of the LGBT+ community.
